Our most frequent Amazon Kindle questions answered:
E-ink technology cannot be backlit. For that reason only the Paperwhite, Voyage, and Oasis can be read without an external light.
The Kindle Paperwhite does not ship with a charger. You can use any micro-USB cable to charge the Kindle, but most users recommend using an official Kindle charging plug. Many people report connectivity issues when using non-Amazon plugs.
This varies depending on the device, but generally, after initially charging your new Kindle for 4 hours, it will take about 2 hour to charge your Kindle by plug adaptor.
This depends on the Kindle model and the features of your particular book. If Text-to-speech is available for your book you will see “Text-to-Speech: Enabled” in the product description.

The Kindle e-reader models use e-ink which emits no blue light(the stuff that keeps you from sleeping). The Fire, which is an LED tablet does emit blue light which is one of the reasons we recommend true e-readers like the Paperwhite, Voyage, and Oasis over the Fire tablets.
This answer is related to the previous blue light question, which is the cause of user frustration. The Kindle uses ‘E-ink’ screens which are are much easier on the eyes than LCD or LED screens on normal phones or tablets.
Yes. All Kindle models since the 2018 Paperwhite come with bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones.
